DTLLS Training Course

Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) programme, is recognised by Lifelong Learning UK, the government approved standards body for the education sector.


The Level 5 DTLLS qualification provides training for those individuals who aspire to, or hold, a teaching role with an extensive range of teaching or training responsibilities, This qualification is defined as the minimum requirement for those wishing to teach in post 16 Education.


The DTLLS course is delivered over 12 months and comprises 18 face-to-face training days, workplace observation assessment, individual research, and the completion of  12 assignments. To join this course you must have PTLLS.


Minimum Qualification and Entry Level Requirements –
You should be qualified to Level 3 or be able to demonstrate Level 3 skills in the subject that you intend to teach,
You must have access to a minimum of 100 teaching practice hours and possess reasonable levels of language, literacy, numeracy and ICT.


The course includes a minimum of 100 hours of teaching practice hours based in the candidate’s own work environment.

Unit 9- Applying theories and principles for planning and enabling inclusive learning & teaching 12 Credits

  • Assessment will be by a range of methods such as assignments, professional discussion, question and answering, observation and work products.

  • 12 written unit assignments,

  • Reflective journal

  • Teaching practice portfolio.

You will have to evidence 100 hours of teaching and will be observed 8 times.  The teaching you are delivering must include teaching groups of learners, although it can also include some one-to-one teaching.

What is the deposit for this course? 25% of the course price (inc vat) which needs to be paid upon enrollment to secure your place and enable us to send out your documentation.


When does payment need to be made by? You can pay the remainder of the course fees within 1 week of your course.

Can I get insurance with this certificate? Yes you will be able to get public liability insurance of up to £5m


Who will benefit from taking this course?

The DTLLS course is aimed at candidates who intend to fulfil a full teaching role and gain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS). Holders of DTLLS with QTLS are also recognised as fully qualified to teach in schools. 


How long will it take to complete this course?

Candidates are able to complete the course within a shorter time depending on a number of factors which includes own commitment and ability to study at a higher level. There is no compromise regarding the quality of evidence which have to be produced to demonstrate competency! Candidates will still be expected to evidence 100 teaching hours and 360 guided learning hours.


What is Teaching?
`Teachers` means anyone who is responsible for planning and carrying out teaching or learning delivery with a learner irrespective of the number of hours they do or their job title. Teaching’ includes: tutoring, training, instructing, lecturing, facilitating, teaching literacy, numeracy, skills for life or job skills.

You have several options the most popular of which is to  move on to a higher teaching course such as the Masters in Education.
